One of her creative financial strategies involved the blue backpack. This was no ordinary backpack, this was the blue backpack. This backpack symbolized how to save 101. No it did not come with special instructions or specifics on “how to be frugal”. Nevertheless I knew what it meant; we’s about to save some monies.
The blue backpack usually had bottled water, peanut butter sandwiches, veggies, fruit and maybe a treat. The “treat” at the time would have been graham crackers or Teddy Graham’s. It was the way my mom and I were able to do the fun stuff while saving money and avoid eating out. It was also our go-to for movie theaters snacks. Who knew this backpack could do all this?
Looking back on it, I smile, and know it was genius. I was fortunate to have a mother who was creative in finances to make special trips, like to Disney World, happen on a budget. More importantly, we were creating memories that I will cherish for a lifetime! Thank you mom!
Today I am grateful for my mom, a beautiful woman of strength and wisdom. What are you grateful for today?
